PRO-E TO CREO WHY?

What’s the difference between PTC’s Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire??

PTC purchased CoCreate a few years back, which is a direct (non-history based) modeler.  Pro/E is (was) a history-based modeler.  While I was at PlanetPTC Live in Orlando in 2009, PTC announced “Project Lightening”, which resulted in the release of Creo the next year.

PTC’s long term goal was/is to combine CoCreate, Pro/Engineer Wildfire, and ProductView into Creo so they use a common data model.  I am still not sure how they do this since direct and non-direct modeling are completely different approaches.

Anyway, Pro/E Wildfire 5.0 will be the last version of Pro/E.  It turned into Creo Elements Pro 5.0.  They are identical except for the splash screen.

Currently, there are two Creo applications of concern to the ACC CAD department.  Creo Parametric (replaced Pro/E Wildfire) and Creo Simulate (replaces Mechanica, which was formerly built into Pro/E Wildfire).  Creo Direct (replaced CoCreate) is a third application, but I do not believe ACC offers any direct modeling classes.  There are many other applications and many more will be added.
